There's been a lot of hype around this product and admittedly I'm a bit late to the game. However, I recently got my hands on a few of them and would like to share my thoughts and let you know whether I think they are worth the rave reviews.
Revlon released originally released their line of ColorBurst™ lip butters in 2012. The idea behind the product being that they moisturise lips while providing a colourful, shiny glow. As stated on their website, they give a sheer to medium coverage available in 20 shades.
The packaging is simple and pretty. The lid being a close match to the lip butter shade with a transparent top. Great for easily finding the shade you are looking for if you have a lot of make-up and lip products
.

The shades I picked up were Berry Smoothie, Juicy Papaya and Strawberry Shortcake. Berry Smoothie seemed to be among the darkest of the available shades (though not the darkest) and seems to give the best colour pay off of the ones I bought and tried. As it's name suggests, it is a pinky, reddish berry colour that flatters many different skin tones. Juicy Papaya on the hand looks very orangey and bright; on first impression it may seem a bit unwearable. However, it is completely wearable! The sheerness tones down the brightness when on lips and in my opinion appears very flattering. A wearable orange is definitely something that excites me as somebody who would never usually venture into the world of bright, 'out there' lip products. The final shade, Strawberry Shortcake, is a pretty pink that again is very wearable, although nothing new to my collection. I think a lot of the light pinky toned shades would all come off fairly similarly on the lips due to the sheerness. I wouldn't recommend buying too many of these shades for that reason. A few that vary in colour would do nicely. Overall, I like the shade range and think many of them would be perfect in the spring and summer.

Revlon also claims they hydrate the lips and provide a shiny finish. This is certainly true from my experience! The formulation contains mango, shea and coconut butter which all work to moisturise and soften the lips. Although not as hydrating as some lip balms, it would certainly be difficult to find any other lip product as moisturising. As someone with dry lips, this is perfect!
The only downside I have experienced is they do not tend to last very long. As they are so moisturising this is to be expected as moisturising products do not last as well as mattifying, dryer ones. Therefore, if you are looking for something long wearing, these may not be for you. More coverage and wear length may be achieved by applying them over a lip liner used on the entire lip.
If you are looking for a hydrating lip product that is sheerer than a lipstick while still providing a nice shine, I highly recommend you get yours hands on some of these! I think they'd also be great if you're younger as a light application looks extremely natural. Perfect for school or daytime wear!
